Currently, Montreal’s Place des Arts is known for the performing arts. It is currently the main residence for the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the Montreal Opera, and Les Grands Ballets Canadiens.
The center was built in1962 and is situated in the downtown Montreal region. Some of the theaters in Place des Arts center include:
- Studio-théâtre
- Théâtre Maisonneuve
- Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier
- Théâtre Jean-Duceppe
- Cinquième salle
The Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal is the current hall being built. These theaters have varying sitting capacities and offerings. Here, the visitors enjoy live opera performances, dance, film presentations, chamber music, and ballet, among other events.
The Place des Arts is the place for Montreal’s contemporary art museum with multiple Underground City connected facilities. This connects to Place-des-Arts metro station and Complexe Desjardins, across the Place Des Arts streets.
The whole center offers multiple musical performances, cinema, art, and theaters, and the Maisonneuve Theater is linked to underground city tunnels. It is the home of several events and festivals, such as the popular International Jazz Festival. Pedestrian-only streets, created in the summer seasons, surround the Place des Arts and host massive crowds during different festivities.
